Mona Brite Scholarship

The “Mona Brite” Scholarship, is provided by the Chamber of Commerce of Newcastle, Oklahoma. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior at Newcastle High School who aspires to pursue a college degree in business or other professional degree which provides the educational foundation for establishing and/or participating in a commercial business activity.

This is a $500.00 scholarship which will be funded entirely from donations and fund-raising sanctioned by the Chamber. The Chamber will coordinate this scholarship program with the Presidential Freedom Scholarship Program which will allow the student to receive matching funds in the amount of $500.00 thereby may result in a net award of $1,000.00 to the successful applicant. The Presidential Freedom Scholarship Program is administered by the Corporation of National and Community Service with funds appropriated by the Congress of the United State of America.

The scholarship money will be awarded jointly to the student and college designated by the recipient in a single payment of $500.00. The scholarship will be issued directly to the college or university. The scholarship cannot be used for room and/or board. It is for tuition, fees and books only. In the event a full scholarship which funds these expenses is awarded to the recipient, the “Mona Brite” Scholarship will be awarded to the alternate candidate. Also, in the event the recipient is not enrolled in an approved university or college by December 1st of the high school graduation year, the “Mona Brite” Scholarship will be awarded to the alternate candidate.

The applicant is responsible for submitting the completed application to Newcastle Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 1006, 820 N. Main, Newcastle, OK 73065, by April 15th of the high school graduation year.

AWARDEES:

  • 2008: Cheyenne Allen is the son of Stan and Darla Allen. He is planning to attend Oklahoma State University where he will double major in ag business and ag communications. Cheyenne served as the Student Council president, the National Honor Society reporter and Newcastle FFA President for three years.He also served on the American Farmers and Ranchers Youth Advisory Board for two years and a board member for the OklahomaJunior Cattleman's Association. Cheyenne was one of the 15 Valedictorians for 2007-2008.
  • 2007: Stephanie Bowen is the daughter of Robert and Victoria Bowen. Her plans are to attend Oklahoma State University with a focus of study on agriculture communications with a minor in agriculture economics with the hopes of a career in Marketing. Stephanie was also one of 8 Valedictorians for 2006-2007, received one of two Oklahoma Academic Scholars acknowledgments, one of two $100 scholarships from the Alpha Phi Sigma Science Club and one of two 2007 National Honor Society Scholarships
